The Court of Assizes of the State of Sucre has ordered the arrest of former presidents of organizations and Fundacetácea BIOMA, Aldemaro Romero and Ignacio Agudo, respectively, for the crimes of cruelty against marine life and an alleged death of dolphins in this region of northeastern Venezuela. Romero and Acute disseminated
year passed in the U.S. and Spain a video showing Venezuelan fishermen cruelly killing a dolphin off the coast of Sucre. The intention of the environmentalists was to denounce the technique of catching tuna using dolphin meat as bait. Fishermen Jesus Marcelino Lugo and John Lewis have alleged they were deceived by these environmentalists to film the dolphin slaughter. The governor of Sucre, Ramón Martínez socialist, has also requested the extradition of Romero, who is a fugitive, apparently in Miami, and his search through the Interpol, on charges of treason. Martinez said Romero has led a boycott against products Venezuelans, especially tuna, which has caused loss of about 1,500 million pesetas.
